just how does the governing body of jehovah's witnesses receive their "insight" or "understanding" of the bible, in order to publish this "spiritual food at the proper time" in their watchtower and awake magazines and all their books?.
let's find out -- from their own publications -- exactly how this happens:.
"spirits of the dead" brochure (1991), page 18:.

what was it that first got you thinking that the society was wrong in how they interpret the bible?.
for me personally, it was the way they always downgrade jesus to be an angel and are promoting the governing body in his place.. also when the society taught that jesus was abaddon/apollyon the fallen angel in revelation..
Nearly two years ago looking at the internet instead of going to a group study. I was blown away by what I read on here, Freeminds etc.

when i was a girl growing up, my mother always said that makeup was for old women and prostitutes.
she never wore much makeup.
i played around with makeup for awhile as a teen but once i grew up, it began to bother my conscience.
Well ladies I would just like to say, as a chappy, I much prefer a lady au naturale, looking and smelling fresh from the shower, without all the perfume and make up. The most important factor, which you cannot buy in a bottle is personality.

"We have in no way made the claim that here we are above others in any way, or that we have some special pipeline to God or special information." -- J.R. Brown (June 30th, 2006)
Visiting speaker to our congregation earlier this year actually said from the platform: "The GB are in direct contact with Jehovah" Nobody batted an eyelid!

years ago i know talks to be accurate, authoritative, corroborative and encouraging.. however, now that watchtower has change (including new light) tactics applied so extensively, things seem to be worsening instead of getting better.. the 45 minute talk is frequently discouraging and prone to inaccuracy in non-scriptural facts.
i hate to see the few means of jw secular education is done by careless misinformation.
it mostly attacks the world and sometimes reflects the overzealous opinions of the speaker; for example, demonizing entertainment and the internet.
Am I right in saying that they no longer give negative counsel in the TMS ? If so, how can they learn?
That is true, though private counsel can be given if needed.
I sat through a reading last week that was unbelievably poor. A 9 year old could have read it better, in fact a 9 year old in the congregation often does. It was unprepared and embarrassing to listen to. The TMS overseer had nothing but praise for this brother (a pioneer no less). Remember also there is no introduction/conclusion to reading anymore, just get up and read the set 12 verses or so.
I think it's a case of just getting anyone on the TMS. Most in the congregation have given up on it.

i recall being young and having a lovely solo pianist accompanying the singing in our hall.. in around the late 70's the obligatory (canned, sad) recorded music replaced live musicians.. anyone have any more detailed memories of live music and the subsequent changeover?.
Up until the late 1950's we had an organ at the KH and an elderly sister played. It had a pair of pedals like large paddles that she had to continually pump for the air. Sounded good though.
When she was no longer up to it we got a piano and a younger sister played but she had limited expertise so whoever was conducting the meeting would say "Is number xx OK?" and she would say either YES or NO, cannot manage 4 flats or whatever!
Then we had the first LP records in the late 60's played on a cheap record player with a microphone stuck in front of the speaker. Not good.

1) i am listening to the meeting on the phone right now.
during the announcements they said there is a letter about paperback bibles and if you want to know what it says you need to read it on the notice board.
i can't read it on the notice board because i'm not there!
I believe the [brackets] were only ever in the large study edition. I know they aren't in any of my deluxe editions.
They are in the standard (B12 I think it's called) black hard cover Bible also. There is a note at the front explaining the purpose of brackets [] and double brackets [[]] for interpolations.

i was prompted to join this site as i got a knock on the door a couple of days ago.. no, when i went door knocking 20 years ago - although admittedly i was a child - the sales patter went like this.
ahem... "hello.
we are speaking to you today to tell you about the watchtower and awake.
No I don't know him, probably moved in after I left.
